Thank you, Ventura

Almost 6 years ago to the day, this article came out in Ventana Magazine describing the reasons why I decided to move Sylvia White Gallery to Ventura.  I feel exactly the same way today. It has been a labor of love and an incredible honor for me.  Ventura is unique in more ways than one. Small town vibe, beach weather, no traffic, reasonable rents, respect for the environment, architectural integrity and authentic living.  But, it is the very special art community that brought us here and welcomed us with open arms. An art community that survives because of the strength and efforts of individuals that won’t let it die…not just visual artists.  Poets, dancers, musicians and even creative entrepreneurs contribute to create the heartbeat that gives Ventura its LIFE.  I have loved every minute of bringing museum quality art to Ventura County. Our exhibitions of Ed Moses, William Wiley, Don Ed Hardy, Ed Ruscha, Robert Rauschenberg, Viola Frey, Masami Teraoka, Squeak Carnwath, Dale Chihuly, Robert Graham and so many others were a pure joy for me.  Our juried shows introduced hundreds of artists to a new audience and nurtured the creativity of so many that long for exposure.  The performance series we hosted, 5x5x5, produced and directed by John M White, gave audiences the opportunity to experience quality Performance Art in every way, shape and form. Our Valentine’s Day events put over $10,000 into the hands of local artists.   But, John and I received just as much as we gave.  Memories were made here that will not soon be forgotten.  So, a very special thank you to all the wonderful artists and supporters who helped us with our adventure. It was an unforgettable ride.   Although we will be closing our public exhibition space as of July 15, I remain available 24/7 via telephone and email. This will not affect Contemporary Artists’ Services or the artists with whom I am working.  My staff and I will continue to do what we do best…helping artists get the exposure they want and their work deserves. I will be working out of my home office and John will be moving his studio space to 110 North Olive Street, Unit N, right next door to Ventura Yoga.  Thank you, Ventura,  for giving me such a bounty of riches during our time here.  I invite you to continue this journey with me and please stay in touch.
