"Mother & Child," Acrylic and Ink on Watercolor Paper,
22" x 30"
Lisa Kodar is a proponent of automatic art, trusting her body to create art from the subconscious. Inspired by her relationship with her family, her travels, and the diversity of society, her intricately patterned work evolves undetermined or preset. Working in a small space under low light, Kodar often works with eyes closed to further deprive distracting sensation or intellectual control.
Most of her work is ink or acrylic on paper, with figurative and design elements intermixed. She aims to create beauty from art abandon. Her life changed drastically from an accident 10 years ago, leaving her in excruciating daily pain. In the early stages of recovery, only through art making was she soothed, and her current works involve the meditative process of birthing beauty. Kodar works from a trance, from beyond, inviting the viewer to delve into her work for healing.
Lisa has shown her work in both the U.S. and Canada and currently resides in Toronto.
